Jet Captain’s debut win in a Work Riders Maiden Plate over 1000m at the Vaal on Tuesday brought smiles to many.
Erin-Lee Watkinson rode her first winner for the stable, and her first on the Highveld, after giving our runner a competent and professional ride. She has worked hard and her skills have certainly improved.
“Erin has done a lot of work on Jet Captain, she knows him well and he was well-behaved today,” said Corne Spies.
Watkinson, who seeks qualification as a professional rider after an injury set her back, commented: “The Work Riders initiative is wonderful, it’s good for everyone and will make me a better jockey in the long run.”
Jet Captain was our first winner for Suzette and Basie Viljoen in their own silks, they also own a share of our Gr3 Gold Bowl winner, Imperial Ruby.
“Suzette and Basie bought Jet Captain straight off the farm from breeder Philip Kahan and we are pleased for them and Philip. This horse has some scope, he didn’t beat the best of fields but he won with some authority so we’ll be holding thumb for more good runs,” said Corne.
Jet Captain is a gelding by Captain Of All from Howhighcanufly, by Jet Master.
