IT was really just a question of time before Oratorio’s four-year-old son Valetorio notched his second career win, which came in a MR88 handicap over 1400m at the Vaal on Wednesday.
He’s always been held in some regard, but Valetorio was punished 6 merit rating points for finishing 5th in a Gr3 as a three-year-old, and it has taken several runs since for his rating to recover to a level where he could be competitive again.
Valetorio is also a bit more experienced now, he settles better and can come from a few lengths off the pace, which helped him to his second win under Luke Ferraris.
Corne said: “The 1400m fits him like a glove now and we are pleased. Well done to Freddie (Van Wyk) and Braam (Van Huysteen), our partners in Valetorio, I hope to see them at the sales!”
Valetorio was raised at Avontuur Stud.
