The good momentum for August 2026 continued with a fourth win for the stable in the first month of the new season, courtesy of Mirum, who got off the mark with his Maiden success over 1600m at the Vaal on 27 August.
“I left him alone at the back, he was nice and relaxed,” said jockey Kabelo Matsunyane, who judged the pace well and delivered Mirum with a strong late challenge to run his rivals out of it. “He hit the line nicely, I think that was a very impressive win from him.”
Xander Spies commented: “Mirum is still learning his trade, so it was particularly pleasing to see him put it all together and show the ability we believed was there.
“Mirum was green in his first two starts,but showed what he can do today. There wasn’t much to choose for us between him and his stablemate Echo Of The Wild. Mirum was a bit wide-eyed when he got to the front,but pulled through. He could be a decent horse for the future.”
Xander congratulated his fellow-owners Rob Macnab, Lionel Engels, Stergio Poriazis, Iresh Rampersad and Anthony Snyders, and praised Kabelo for his great ride.
Mirum is by Hemel ‘n’ Aarde stud’s Horizon out of Miracle Play, by Singspiel.
