He gave Tobie Spies as a 7 year old jockey riding in his first Bush Race his first win and father & son team, Kerneels & Tobie once won all 5 races for thoroughbreds on the same day with "Vastrap"

Mark's Uncle, Derrick Hilton from Newton le Willows in the UK was one of my first patrons when I started as a trainer in 2000. He owned very good race mare Casper's Lady.

Tobie Spies started as stud manager at Trevor & Minou Armitage's Standerton stud farm in 1983 after resigning his position at the coal mines. While managing, then one of the larger studs in SA, he also found time to train many a winner for the famous all red colours of the Armitage's from the track he made through the mielie fields.
